Photo Contests

Summer is one of the biggest picture-taking seasons of the year. Plus, these photo contests will drive tons of entries and lots of pageviews.

The Forsyth County News found a great opportunity to tie into the Father’s Day holiday. A grill photo contest made an easy pitch to local hardware store, Ace Hardware. It was a success, with more than 3,800 votes after the two week submission period with votes cast for the ugliest grill. One lucky winner with the most amount of votes was awarded a brand new Weber grill valued at over $750. The paper came away with $1,500 in revenue.

WBZA-FM in Rochester, NY ran a Dog Days of Summer photo contest which received $6,000 in sponsorship revenue from sponsors such as veterinarians and dog boarding & training facilities.

Father’s Day-themed photo contests are as easy as it gets, with everyone taking and sharing photos of themselves with their fathers on Father’s Day. Give them an incentive to post it within your contest instead of just on their own social media pages. Here is an example of a Dad and I contest run by the Kearney Hub in Nebraska.

The Gift of Magic Giveaway by KCLR-FM in Columbia, MO granted a chance to win a trip to Disney World for 4 people. With vacations at the forefront of people’s minds, this travel giveaway has perfect timing. Not only did it increase the radio station’s revenue by $6,500, but it also created $30,000 direct revenue for the sponsor.

A Father’s Day car wash giveaway hosted by WPSD-TV in Paducah, KY saw a drastic increase in opt-ins: 1,200 for the sponsor. A thank-you page included the direct link to purchase gift cards from the sponsor as well, increasing revenue not just as a result of the giveaway but also from those who did not win.

Discover Your Dream Hill Country Getaway run by Austin Monthly in Austin, Texas was a quiz success. This magazine with a circulation of 30,000 collected 750 opt-ins for their sponsor, a local visitor’s center.

Sponsored by the local PGA tournament, more than 1,300 entries were made in the Who’s Your PGA Tour Buddy? Quiz put on by Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Golf fits in perfectly with summer and Father’s Day, just as this quiz fits in perfectly with user’s interests and your team’s goals.
