*2018 Second Street Award – Best Birthday Email Winner

The Aberdeen American News is proof that birthday emails work in any size market. Based out of Aberdeen, SD this paper has been able to grow their birthday email list and secure multiple sponsors bringing in $15,000 a year in revenue.

WRIF-FM

This birthday email example from WRIF-FM was sponsored by Dunkin Donuts. Our favorite part is how the email drove sign-ups for the Dunkin Donuts mobile app. This was a creative way to achieve the advertiser’s goals of app downloads (and enjoy a donut or two!)

Northwest Florida Daily News

The Northwest Florida Daily News is hitting all the right notes with their birthday email. They’ve been up and running for a couple years now and are leveraging multiple best practices. Plus, they’ve been able to secure multiple sponsorships for an annual sponsorship package. Check out the full case study here.

WGN-TV

This last year, WGN-TV has put a huge emphasis on their birthday email strategy. Not only are they investing in building their list through promotions each month, but they’re also creating birthday emails using video, involving their talent, and including offers from multiple sponsors.

Entercom Communications

The whole team at Entercom has developed a robust birthday email program for all of their stations. This is a groupwide strategy, they’re creating fun email content with the station personalities, and consistently driving high engagement.

KOIT-FM

The team at KOIT has created a fun birthday email including from their whole team. This has been a great way to drive brand personality with their audience. This is also a great example of how a birthday email doesn’t need to include a prize to be effective.

Southeast Missourian

As a media company, you’re sitting on a ton of content from the previous years. The Southeast Missourian has turned their birthday email into a creative way to leverage their archive by including top stories from their birthday month from past years. In the future, they hope to be able to prepare a custom email related to news from specific birthdays not just birth months.

It doesn’t matter if you’re already running a birthday email program or considering getting started, find some inspiration from these examples. Even simple changes can start to take your birthday emails to the next level.
