Second Street Award Winner – Branded Content Campaign
The Idea
Branded content was already a proven strategy for the Federated – Ft. Wayne team. After executing multiple successful campaigns for Ft. Wayne City Utilities, they leveraged their experience to support the Allen County Department of Environmental Management in promoting its fire prevention messaging.

The Execution
To bring the campaign to life, the Federated – Ft. Wayne team developed a simple yet effective sweepstakes designed to raise awareness of the department’s key messages. To maximize reach, the promotion ran across two stations: WMEE-FM and WQHK-FM.

Timing played a critical role in the campaign’s success. The sweepstakes launched during Fire Prevention Week in early October—an ideal window to spotlight the sponsor’s mission and educate the community. The prize package reinforced the campaign’s theme, featuring four smoke alarms and two fire extinguishers.
To deepen engagement, the entry form included a question highlighting a key safety message: the fire risks associated with improperly disposing of lithium-ion batteries. Participants were asked whether they were aware of this hazard prior to entering. This approach served a dual purpose—effectively spreading awareness while also providing valuable insight into public knowledge around fire prevention.

To complete the branded content experience, the team developed custom invite and thank you emails that not only drove contest participation, but also reinforced their sponsor’s fire safety messaging.

The Results
This campaign successfully combined education and engagement, helping the Allen County Department of Environmental Management tell a compelling story around fire prevention while connecting with the local community in a meaningful way.
In addition to amplifying the sponsor’s message, the Federated – Ft. Wayne team generated $3,500 in revenue—delivering clear value for both the client and the station.
